"Self-sufficiency does not mean 'going back' to the acceptance of a lower standard of living. On the contrary, it is the striving for a higher standard of living, for food that is organically grown and good, for the good life in pleasant surroundings... and for the satisfaction that comes from doing difficult and intricate jobs well and successfully." John Seymour ~ Self Sufficiency 2003

Thought for Thursday 8

The weather here is overcast, cold, wet - with a smattering of snow on the mountains.  But, as there is very little power coming into our batteries blogging is limited...

...so, to keep in touch here's a Thought for Thursday from Tut:

"The main reason someone moves mountains, wins friends, influences people, amasses a fortune, or anything else, is because they thought they would.

Veni, Vedi, Vici!"

    1. Harry - The power that comes in via our solar panels is firstly for our fridge and lights, then the power guzzling work PC, TV (to keep abreast of what is happening "out yhere", and right at the end of the line it's for my pleasure (blogging, surfing, etc.)
Given that we've had 4 days of overcast weather, impending cold front I'm not complaing at the panels / batteries performance ;)

    2. P.S. And we will not be affected at all by the advertised and planned load shedding (enforced blackouts) from SA's only power supplier, Escom - or as they are known "Hellkom" (hell's coming)...

  4. It's so aspiring to see how you live off the grid and do so well.... I feel like after a while there's even more to do than when you're in the cities, you get more creative again and you have nature around you to play with... What more do you want

    1. Ruwen - Welcome and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.

Thank you also for your kind words :) Yes, it is far more rewarding to live away from the city - there is more than enough work to be done, and one is always busy with that which is important for one's livelihood :)

Thank you for taking the time to comment - it makes my day and removes the "loneliness' of sitting at my screen blogging supposedly to myself ;) I try and reply as quickly as possible so please forgive me if sometimes my response is delayed.
